Vice-President of India completes his visit to Botswana
India established diplomatic relations with Botswana at independence in 1966 and is a country with which Botswana has developed a profound traditional relationship over the years, resulting in fruitful cooperation in a number of areas such as defence, security, law enforcement, health, human resource development, and information and communications technology. Botswana and India have signed numerous pacts to foster economic, socio-cultural and political ties. It is expected that, during Vice-President Ansari’s visit, they will conclude the pending agreements on agriculture and allied sectors, science and technology, small medium and micron enterprises (SMME), and education exchange programme during the visit. India contributes immensely to the economic growth of Botswana as evidenced by over eighty (80) Indian manufacturing companies which have invested in the country. It is expected that this high-level visit will further strengthen the existing bonds of friendship and mutual cooperation. Vice-President Ansari was accompanied by a high powered delegation during his visit and undertook tours of Diamond Trading Company (DTC) Botswana and Chobe National Park. They left Botswana on Monday January 11, 2010. |
