HS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT TO ATTEND THE 3RD SESSION

OF THE BOTSWANA-SOUTH AFRICA BI-NATIONAL COMMISSION

Gaborone, 9 November 2016: The Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation (MIAC) informs the public that His Excellency the President, Lieutenant General Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama, will travel to South Africa on 11th November 2016, at the invitation of His Excellency Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, President of the Republic of South Africa, to attend the 3rd Session of Bi-National Commission (BNC) between Botswana and South Africa.

The BNC is an annual high-level cooperation platform established in August 2012 to strengthen and deepen the bilateral relations and strong bonds of friendship between the Governments and Peoples of Botswana and South Africa. During the Meeting, the two Leaders will discuss a wide range of issues of mutual interest across the political, economic, social, justice, defence and security sectors.

The Summit will be preceded by a Ministerial Meeting as well as a Senior Officials Meeting. His Excellency the President will be accompanied by seven (7) Honourable Ministers for International Affairs and Cooperation; Defence, Justice and Security; Transport and Communications; Investment, Trade and Industry; Nationality, Immigration& Gender Affairs; Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology; and Land Management, Water & Sanitation Services.

The Botswana Delegation will also include Senior Government Officials from various Ministries and Agencies.

His Excellency the President and his Delegation are expected to return to Gaborone on 11 November 2016.
